The Cookie Bake Off

A few weeks into the pandemic, donations of the usual nice desserts had virtually stopped; and Kitchen Manager, Karen Andrew, was looking for things like Twinkies to include in the daily meals. Longtime volunteer and former board member, Lynda Fairbanks Atkins, who does not like to bake, offered to make cookies. On the way home, she wondered if some of her friends would be willing to make some, too.

Were they ever! Dozens and dozens of cookies, bars, brownies and cakes have been being delivered two or three days a week, the work of nearly two dozen bakers. At one point, Lynda wondered if making cookies was really making a difference. The pleasure reported by the people eating them says “yes!”
